A pregnant woman and her unborn child died in a traffic accident in Lower Saxony.
Apparently, the 32-year-old driver of the car was on the run after pickpocketing, the police said on Friday.
He was seriously injured in the accident on Thursday and then taken to a hospital.
According to the information, the man had left the road in a curve near Bremervörde and drove his vehicle into a tree stump in a ditch.
Both car occupants were not buckled.
The 38-year-old passenger died in hospital from her serious injuries.
Her unborn child could not be saved either.
Before the accident, the man is said to have stolen the wallet from the handbag of an 82-year-old, according to the police.
He then fled with his accomplice.
The 32-year-old was therefore traveling at a very high speed.
Before the accident, he had already "endangered several road users with daring overtaking maneuvers," the police said.
