The Guardia di Finanza of Naples, under delegation from the Belgian federal prosecutor's office, has received the mandate to serve MEP Andrea Cozzolino with a European arrest warrant on suspicion of being involved in the so-called Qatargate.

The financiers went to Cozzolino's Neapolitan home, but the MEP was not found at home.

The Belgian federal police also searched Cozzolino's residence in the Ixelles district of Brussels.

The Italian MEP was absent.

In recent days Cozzolino was in his house in Naples.

The federal prosecutor's office reports that it is ready to summon him: an order from the Belgian investigating judge Michael Claise - in the form of a summons or a European arrest warrant - could be issued in the next few hours.

MEP Marc Tarabella is being interrogated in custody

.

Belgian investigators at dawn this morning, as part of the Qatargate investigation - according to what was announced by the federal prosecutor's office - carried out "several searches" focusing on the safe of a bank located in Liège belonging to MEP Marc Tarabella and on some offices of the town hall of Anthisnes, of which the Belgian politician is burgomaster.

Tarabella was taken from his home in Anthisnes and taken to Brussels for questioning.

He was then "temporarily deprived of his freedom" on the orders of investigating judge Michel Claise, who will decide in the afternoon whether to validate the arrest.

The reaction: 'I was waiting for you'.

"Finally, I've been waiting for you for two months, now I can be heard": this is how MEP Marc Tarabella, according to sources in his entourage, welcomed the police officers this morning at his home in Anthisnes, in the province of Liège.

Monica Rossana Bellini, the accountant of the family of former MEP Antonio Panzeri, is back free, with only the ban on expatriation,

arrested in the Milan area on January 17 on a European arrest warrant from the Belgian magistrates investigating Qatargate.

This was decided by the Court of Appeal of Milan accepting the defense's request for revocation of house arrest.

Meanwhile, yesterday the judges decided to postpone the hearing, to decide on whether or not to hand over to Belgium, to March 9, because no documents have arrived that clarify the purposes of the handover itself.
