(ANSA) - TRIESTE, FEBRUARY 10 - With a solemn ceremony at the Foiba National Monument in Basovizza, the Day of Remembrance is celebrated today in the Trieste Karst, to commemorate the victims of the sinkholes, the Julian-Dalmatian exodus and the dramatic events on the eastern border in the years post-war horse.
The celebrations at the Monument are promoted by the Municipality of Trieste and by the Committee for the Martyrs of the sinkholes.
Among others, the Minister for Relations with Parliament, Luca Ciriani, the President of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Massimiliano Fedriga, the Mayor of Trieste, Roberto Dipiazza, the group leader of the Chamber of Deputies, Debora Serracchiani, civil and military authorities were present.
The banners of, among others, the Municipalities of Trieste and Muggia and the Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia are lined up in the area of the ceremony.
Flags and banners of the representations linked to the exiles are also displayed.
Also present was the banner of the X Mas.
Among the audience are several students from local institutes who are attending the commemoration.
After the flag-raising ceremony, in the presence of a picket from the Piedmont Cavalry Regiment 2/o, honors were paid to the martyrs of the sinkholes and crowns of gold were placed in front of the big sinkhole.
laurels from the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, from the Fvg Region and the Municipality of Trieste, from the president of the Committee for the Martyrs of the Foibe and the National League, Paolo Sardos Albertini, and a crown from the representatives of the associations of Exiles from Istria, Fiumani and Dalmatians.
