Judge Ruth Herz is dead. At the beginning of the 2000s, the lawyer became known for her role as a juvenile judge on the RTL court show »Das Jugendgericht«.
According to RTL information, Ruth Herz died on February 2 in Cologne. The "Frankfurter Rundschau" initially reported the lawyer's death.
Accordingly, she was 79 years old.
Herz was born in Haifa in 1943, the daughter of a Jewish lawyer and a teacher.
The parents had fled Germany to Palestine ten years earlier.
After World War II they returned to West Germany.
Herz studied law in Geneva, Munich and Cologne.
In 1974 she was sworn in as a judge at the District Court of Cologne, two years later she took over the presidency of the youth lay judges' court.
According to the “Frankfurter Rundschau”, Ruth Herz was also successful in the academic field.
She was visiting professor at Birkbeck College, University of London.
She taught at Princeton University as a Visiting Fellow and as a Research Associate at Oxford University.
