(ANSA) - SANREMO, FEBRUARY 10 - At Ariston it is time to pay homage to Remembrance Day: Amadeus reads a passage from Gigliola Alvisi's book 'The little girl with the suitcase', dedicated to the story of Egea Haffner, "one of the most authentic testimonies of tragedy experienced by thousands of Italians from Istria, Dalmatia and Venezia Giulia in the post-war period".

In the background, the black and white photo of little Egea, with the inscription 'Esule giuliana 30001', which has become the symbol of the Julian-Dalmatian tragedy.

"February 10, as you know - underlines the artistic director - is the Day of Remembrance, established to keep alive the memory of one of the most tragic pages of our history: the massacre of thousands of our compatriots thrown into the sinkholes by the militias of Marshal Tito and the 'exile of hundreds of thousands of Italians forced to leave their land and their possessions. A long forgotten story that belongs to the dark age of dictatorships and makes us reflect on the value of memory and above all of truth. Because freedom is not conquered by forgetting or removing, but by remembering . Always".
