The prospect of a merger of the TV channel France 3 and the regional radio stations France Bleu worries within the public audiovisual sector: unions protested Friday against this hypothesis, after the leak of internal documents.

This merger project is unacceptable because it only offers gloomy prospects for the teams
,” thundered the SNJ (National Union of Journalists) trade union sections of France Televisions and Radio France in a joint press release.

Once again, our very Parisian leaders want to use the regional stations of France 3 as a punching bag
", for its part denounced the CGT of France Televisions in another press release.
The unions rely on a document dated February 1 and signed by the presidents of the two public groups, Delphine Ernotte Cunci (France Télévisions) and Sibyle Veil (Radio France).
It was made public by the SNJ, after its existence was first revealed by the media La Lettre A.

This document, which summarizes a meeting between the two directions on January 27, plans to take “
new decisive steps in the rapprochement of France 3 and France Bleu
” within 5 years.
In particular, it envisages “
the creation of single regional directorates
” to implement “
common editorial projects
”, as well as “
the creation of a single and common brand
”.
This plan could be “
soon presented to the government within the framework of the COM (Contracts of objectives and means) which must be concluded with the State from 2024
”, fears the SNJ.

The synergies of public broadcasting would therefore be accelerated, at the rate of political injunctions
", the union is alarmed, while the Minister of Culture, Rima Abdul-Malak, has repeatedly called for strengthening the "
synergies
" between public groups.
The CGT of France Televisions for its part said “
ulcerated to learn of such a project in the press
”.

The company's strategy must first be presented to elected officials, in CSE.

Monday, Radio France announced the appointment of Céline Pigalle, editorial director of the private news channel BFMTV, at the head of the network of local public radio stations France Bleu, whose audiences have plunged.
The stated objective of Sibyle Veil is to give "
new impetus
" to France Bleu.
In addition, France Télévisions is currently carrying out an internally contested reform: called Tempo, it provides for the abolition of the national newspapers of France 3 (12/13 and 19/20) in September 2023 and their replacement by 24 regional editions.
