(ANSA) - ROME, FEBRUARY 10 - The San Marco ship of the Navy has just left Brindisi carrying a field hospital supplied by the Piedmont Region for the populations affected by the earthquake that devastated Turkey and Syria.

In this regard, yesterday, the defense minister, Guido Crosetto, had expressed his thanks "to the institutions, associations, private individuals and to the men and women who have offered and are offering concrete help in the face of such a devastating earthquake.

Italy is close to the Turkish and Syrian people, especially those affected by this terrible tragedy".

The naval unit, made available by the Defense Ministry, in addition to the field hospital, will transport other goods and instruments collected in these hours also through donations from private individuals and associations to be allocated to the populations hard hit by the earthquake.

In addition to the ship's crew, 24 military and 12 Army vehicles are also on board for the transport of Civil Protection containers.

At the moment, Defense personnel (Army, Navy, Air Force and Carabinieri) are contributing, with various activities, to rescue operations in favor of the populations of Turkey and Syria.
