The strike of February 28 by Ita Airways staff will last four hours: from 10 to 14

.

This was reported by the unions after yesterday's failed agreement with the company on wages.

THE UNIONS

The decision came after yesterday the cooling off and conciliation phase for the Ministry of Labor ended "negatively" with "a report of non-agreement" between the parties on the issue of salaries.

The trade unions accused the newco of a "backtrack and a sudden and unexpected about-face".

"The company has inexplicably shown unacceptable rigidity by refusing to sign an agreement built together over the long months of negotiations", explained the general secretary Claudio Tarlazzi and the national secretary Ivan Viglietti of Uiltrasporti.

"The agreement already concluded and negotiated was blown up by the company", thundered the national secretary of Filt CGIL Fabrizio Cuscito.

"It makes us realize that someone not only does not have the interests of the workers at heart, but lacks respect for them and, on the contrary, has an interest in risking the Lufthansa entry operation and the very survival of the company ", accused Cuscito, urging an "immediate intervention by the Government".

For the unions, "a serious and unacceptable fact" and so Filt Cgil, Fit-Cisl, Uiltrasporti, Ugl-Ta and the professional associations Anpac, Anpav and Anp have announced what will be the first strike of the Ita era on February

28 Airways, the newco born from the ashes of Alitalia.

THE COMPANY

The company, for its part, explained to the unions, during the videocall meeting at the Ministry of Labour, that it is not currently "in a position to sign the agreement that has only matured in the last few hours".

And the company, in order "to be able to proceed with the signing of the agreement", has

convened "an extraordinary board of directors for the beginning of next week

".

And "for this reason we are asking for a new meeting after the date of setting the board of directors", said the company.

THE NEGOTIATION WITH LUFTHANSA

The rift with the unions crosses the negotiation between the Treasury and Lufthansa for the sale of a minority stake in Ita.

In the memorandum signed between the parties, the stake in the newco for sale is between 20 and 40% and the German group is about to take 40% through a reserved capital increase for an outlay of between 250 and 300 million of Euro.

The Minister of Economy and Finance, Giancarlo Giorgetti, has indicated that the margin of time necessary to arrive at the preliminary sale is "two months".

Lufthansa's operational entry into Italy is therefore expected for the summer.

Central to Lufthansa's strategy is Fiumicino airport, destined to become the hub for Latin America and Africa as it is the southernmost of the hubs in Lufthansa's network.
