(ANSA) - LIMA, FEBRUARY 10 - Devastating mudslides have hit southern Peru, where the death toll has reached 17, including 3 children, in addition to 27 injured and 20 missing, according to data from the National Institute of Civil Protection of Peru (INDECI).
Heavy rains hit the Peruvian region of Arequipa, where houses, roads, schools and a medical center were destroyed in the province of Camana.
The area is home to many illegal mining and officials fear that some people may have become trapped.
The children who died were between the ages of one and 10, authorities said.
