the only woman at work: a servant, who pours milk into an earthen container.
Next to her, a stoneware pitcher from Westerwald closed with a pewter lid, some loaves of bread in a basket, and a few broken pieces placed on the tablecloth.
The scene is placed in the corner of a pantry or a kitchen, under the broken-pane window from which the light flows, defining the shapes and variations of shadow on the whitewashed wall.
