CORTINA - The snow of Trentino Alto Adige, followed by that of Lombardy and Valle d'Aosta and then of Piedmont, Veneto and Friuli: 12 million Italians choose the mountains in the first quarter of this year: 7.5 million do stays of a week or a slightly shorter period, for the remaining 4.5, are instead day excursions.

The average expenditure is 540 euros per person.

Almost 9 out of 10 holidaymakers choose national destinations.

It emerges from a focus of the Confcommercio-Swg Observatory on the winter holidays of Italians.

The Italian Alpine arc is therefore the master, but there is no shortage of tourists who reach foreign destinations: the Swiss "peaks" excel, followed by those of Austria and France.

The motivations for mountain holidays have changed after the pandemic.

Nature excursions, food and wine tastings, relaxation in spas and wellness centres, shopping are the 4 most important activities indicated by the interviewees: in short, yes, the mountains but "at a slow pace", the Italians seem to say, given that the practice of skiing and other sports winter is mentioned from fifth place onwards.

However, for those who choose this type of experience, attention to the state of the snow at the destination remains high, especially the natural one: 4 out of 10 holidaymakers declare that, in the absence of snow, they prefer to change their holiday plans, above all , of course, among skiers.
