Mama Busra is over the moon, her son is on the phone.
The 75-year-old hadn't heard from him for five days, she thought he had died in the earthquake in Hatay province.
She owes this moment of happiness to the helpers on site.
Murathan Adil, Special Operations Soldier
»The old woman came to us when we were working in the rubble field.
She had left her phone, ID and other belongings at home in the rubble.
She asked us for help.
So we went and brought her things.”
Murathan Adil used an excavator to get to the balcony of Busra's apartment.
Another rescue worker had already entered the building and was able to recover a bag with the woman's belongings.
Together they brought their things to Busra.
After the earthquake, the woman found shelter in a makeshift camp for the homeless.
But then the disappointment: The cell phone battery is empty.
So keep waiting.
A man in the makeshift shelter overhears the scene and says he knows her son.
Murathan Adil, Special Operations Soldier
“She spoke to her son.
Thank God.
She is happier.
Your son wants to come and pick you up.”
Reporter:
"How did you feel when you saw her crying while talking to her son?"
Murathan Adil, Special Operations Soldier
»It was very emotional.
Words fail you.
May God prevent something like this from happening to other people.«
Mama Busra
»It's like the world was given to me.
When I was in the hospital recently, my son washed me and took care of me.
He brought me food.
He even told his wife he would take care of me if she didn't.
Now I want to find my daughter.«
Hopefully she can reach them with her charged phone.
It is one of the many positive stories that give hope.
In the past few hours, however, there have also been reports of clashes in the province of Hatay, as the Technical Relief Agency announced.
German and Austrian helpers on site temporarily suspended their work.
For many people, grief turned to anger because help was not progressing quickly enough.
In the meantime, however, the rescuers have resumed their work under the protection of the Turkish military.
