The exhibition Jerusalem of the Heart will open today (Monday) in Jerusalem in memory of the international ultra-Orthodox artist Hobi Elisha, who died about six months ago.

Elisha's family is launching the exhibition as the opening act for an international tour of her art, and in days of tension and controversy - they believe that precisely through her works it is possible to bridge the gaps.

"She brought the world of Judaica into painting and in the last 40 years conquered all the painting stages in the world, including the biggest galleries in New York," says Shlomi Elisha (27), her grandson.

"There aren't many artists of this caliber from the Orthodox stream. She broke those barriers and reached the highest places."

Indeed, one of Elisha's paintings is now offered for sale at a price determined by professionals - 1.2 million dollars.

This is the painting "The Spy Picture" (2003), which was in the center of the room of the US ambassador to Israel, David Friedman, after it was loaned to the embassy. Friedman recently decided to return it to the gallery, and it is now up for sale.

Has art never clashed with religion?

"On the contrary, she brought Jewish art to the world, which no one was able to do like her. She did everything according to religion and Halacha, and you can see it in her works. In this exhibition, we mainly want to emphasize the Land of Israel and show the connection she had to it. This exhibition It is an opening shot for the Sobov Olam exhibition campaign, where we will show the world the heart of Jerusalem."
