(ANSA) - ROME, FEBRUARY 13 - First test on public roads of the robot taxi made by Zoox, the autonomous driving startup owned by Amazon.
The Foster City, Calif.-based company, acquired by Amazon in 2020, announced it had carried passengers aboard a fully automated, steering-wheel-less electric vehicle for the first time on public roads for a mile.
Zoox got the green light from the California Department of Motor Vehicles and will now use the robotaxi to operate a shuttle service for its employees, pending further approvals to expand the service to the public.
The robotaxi was developed internally by Zoox and has been a key part of its business plan since the company was founded in 2014. (ANSA).
