The president of Acea Michaela Castelli has resigned from the leadership of the subsidiary in Rome.
A gesture, the company announces, motivated by "personal reasons".
In his letter of resignation, Castelli underlines that his choice was "very thought out and made not without regret: it is a decision, of a strictly personal nature, whose maturation began in the last days of the year that has just ended and which has gradually consolidated in the context of the new governance structures indicated by the controlling shareholder".
Castelli's decision to leave the multi-utility - which could also be involved in the construction of the future waste-to-energy plant in Rome,
very hot topic of the political debate - arrives while in the background the controversy rises on the accusations of alleged sexist and discriminatory behavior in the workplace by the managing director Fabrizio Palermo against some hostesses.

An internal investigation, in short, to clarify the testimonies, released by Repubblica, of some hostesses of an external company and employed in the company.
The girls told the newspaper that they had suffered a series of sexist harassments while they were on duty at Acea, including serving meals and coffee.

Castelli, Roman, born in 1970, from 21 June 2018 was at the head of the company in which the Campidoglio holds 51% of the capital.

center-right opposition has urged mayor Roberto Gualtieri to express himself unequivocally on the matter.
"I am proud of the results achieved by the administrative body and by all Acea employees in recent years - Castelli wrote again in his letter of resignation - in a context objectively full of difficulties and during which it was precisely Acea's people who make a difference by ensuring its services to the city and the territories".
The managing director Palermo, also on behalf of the entire board of directors, thanked Castelli "for the contribution he has made in recent years to the presidency of the company".
