WhatsApp has launched, only in a trial version, a function capable of "translating" voice messages into written text.
The news was given by the WaBetainfo site, with the first "tester" users who have already got their hands on the latest beta version designed for the iPhone.
The messaging app can transform audio into text, maintaining all the necessary privacy, thanks to the execution of the conversion operations directly on the device, without sending the messages to external cloud services.
Users registered for the Whatsapp beta, i.e. trial, program can already test the novelty by downloading the iOS version number 23.3.0.73.
Being preliminary, however, it is not free from errors and some defects.
For example, they note in WaBetainfo, transcription crashes when a word is not understood or is not in the WhatsApp vocabulary.
When setting up the service, the app asks you to choose your preferred language, so you can only transcribe texts in the language chosen each time, with the opportunity to change it whenever you want.
As WaBetainfo explains, WhatsApp can take advantage of the offline language translation capabilities of iPhones to allow audio to be transformed into text, avoiding the use of additional software or sending the content online.
For this reason, the translation could take longer than necessary, with the need to download the so-called "language packs" of the reference languages.
