If you made it all the way to Rome, one of the most romantic cities in the world to celebrate Valentine's Day this year, don't miss "The Goddess of Love: A Thousand Faces of Venus", at the Borghese Gallery.

This is one of the most important museums in Rome with an impressive collection of paintings and sculptures by Bernini, Canova, Raphael and others, decorated with magnificent ceiling paintings from the Renaissance period and located in the most magical and beautiful Borghese gardens among the city's gardens.

The gallery invites you to a selfie event with the Roman goddess of love, Venus, in honor of Valentine 2023. Since the day she was born,

many good things have been written about her.

She represented femininity and sensuality in the world of art, growth and blossoming were her being,

she was called many names, such as "Victory" (Venus Victrix) because she was a symbol of the object of success in games of chance and in many wars or "Venus Calva", when she proved to women that in difficult times like A siege and in a time of truth, when the women were forced to donate their hair to make ropes for the war - Jofein and Csman were not denied and the power of seduction, in spite of everything, was still there.

She was a figure of admiration for the modesty and innocence of all the girls who were about to get married.

She was a patroness and protector of the peasants and farmers, and protected the openings of the Roman drainage systems, therefore she was nicknamed by many, "Venus of sewers" (Venus Cloacina).

One of the most important museums in Rome.

Sensual or modest, capricious or persuasive

In the art history classes we admired such a divine Venus, the celestial Venus (Venus Caelestis),

Jupiter's Venus (Venus Jovia) and much more.

From February 14 to 19, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.,

the museum offers a glimpse into the discovery of the many faces of Venus: the goddess of love, beauty, natural fertility, sensual or modest, capricious or persuasive in the museum's collection.

During the week of Valentine's Day, Borghese Gallery visitors are invited to participate in the social contest "Mark with love in the museum!"

Simply photograph and tag (#borgheseinlove) Venus and share with the museum's Instagram @galleriaborgheseufficiale.

The photos will be shared on the museum's official account and the winners will be awarded a museum membership card.

The tourist who broke the statue

"Venus the Victorious" (Latin: Venus Victrix) or "Paulina Borgoza as Venus the Victorious" is one of the

famous sculptures of the gallery, in the neoclassical style, depicting Paulina, the sister of Napoleon and the wife of Camilo

Borgoza.

The statue was created in marble by the sculptor Antonio Canova between 1805 - 1809 in Rome and is currently displayed in the Borghese Gallery.

The statue is actually a portrait of Paulina Borghese in the form of the goddess Venus.

She is depicted partially naked, sitting

in a reclining position with a cloth covering her thighs and legs.

In one hand she holds a bracelet and in the other hand she holds an apple, which is a symbol (attribute) to the figure of Venus (Aphrodite) in the "Trial of Paris".

The figure lies on a sculpted mattress, which is placed on a pedestal in the form of a Roman sofa, decorated with golden ornaments and imitation of fabric.

Apparently the museum is challenging itself to make Venus the winner of Instagram for 2023 at any cost,

And this despite the fact that about three years ago an embarrassing accident happened at the Canova Museum located in Possagno

in eastern Italy, the city where the sculptor Antonio Canova was born, when an Austrian tourist decided to take a picture of himself with the same "Venus the Victorious" statue, made of plaster and used as a model and when he sat on his knees to take a picture ' He accidentally broke Venus's fingers and her foot was broken.

The initiative is free, but an entrance ticket must be purchased in advance on the museum's website.
