(ANSA) - ROME, FEBRUARY 15 - Bologna Children's Book Fair celebrates sixty years with a major expansion abroad, many new projects, a great tribute to Italo Calvino on the centenary of his birth and a project dedicated to Ukraine, Tales of EUkraine of books bilingual for Ukrainian refugee children and young people in Europe.

which, from 6 to 9 March 2023, will see in Bologna the presence of 1,350 exhibitors from about 90 countries and regions of the world, with Greece as guest of honor and the arrival of big names in world illustration and publishing for children and teenagers.

    "In the last ten years there has been an enormous development of the presence abroad and of the range of activities: today the Bologna book fair is a system of fairs that ranges from children's books, to licensing, to publishing in general, with an extension from he other part of the world, in Shanghai, and a continuous cycle of collaborations and presences in many different countries.


   We have gone beyond the traditional model of a monothematic fair by transforming BCBF into a brand for this city.

Among the exhibitors, China, Russia and something from Japan are missing, but little by little after the pandemic, they are all returning" said Elena Pasoli, exhibition manager of the Bologna Children's Book Fair today at the presentation. And Fabio Del Giudice, general manager of the Italian Association Publishers, underlined that "children's publishing represents 20% of the market both in economic terms and in terms of volumes sold".

Figures for Italo Calvino' 120 illustrations inspired by the literary production of the great writer, including already published works by important artists, and the unpublished ones, winners of an international competition promoted by the fair.

Among the exhibitions also 'Ukraine illustrated' dedicated to illustrations by Ukrainian artists on the experience of war.
