- Four out of ten Italians buy olive oil in large-scale distribution (Gdo), while 3 out of 10 buy it directly from the consumer.
This is what emerged today with the presentation in Rome, on the occasion of the celebration of the supply chain agreement between Confagricoltura and Carapelli Florence, of the Nomisma study "The Italian olive supply chain in the global market, between new consumption trends and evolutionary scenarios".
The research, presented by Denis Pantini, records that the average 2022 modern distribution sales prices for PDOs (€/Kg) is 11.41, for 100% Italian (excluding PDO/PGI) it is 6.81 , while for the total Evo it is 5.27 and for the community it is 4.56.
The economic analysis shows that Italian oil enjoys an excellent reputation abroad with a 58% appreciation of quality in the United States, 43% in Germany and 53% in Japan.
The report points out that the world production of extra virgin olive oil is reduced by 20% with the 2022\23 campaign.
The most influential is the product of the European Union with a variation of -48% for Spain in the 2022-2021 comparison, -37% for Italy and +51% for Greece.
