Since the ruling against the eight rugby players for the crime of Fernando Báez Sosa was known, there have been different considerations and points of view on
whether the sentences were fair
, very harsh or not so harsh.
That review must now be resolved by the Criminal Cassation Chamber.
Today marks the tenth day of the sentence and the term that the defense, the complaint and the prosecution have to present their
appeals
, either for
to mitigate the cover and the penalties in one case, as to achieve life imprisonment for all those guilty of the murder, in the other.
The trial for the crime of Fernando Báez Sosa generated a high interest in society to know the course of the hearings that took place in Dolores until the ruling that issued life imprisonment
for 5 of the defendants
and
15 years in prison for the others. three
.
While the Justice will be in charge of defining in the second instance if the sentences applied comply with the law, a survey measured the
feelings that Argentines had with the ruling
, as well as their opinions on the actions of the participating judges and lawyers.
Not only that: it also measured opinions
according to the political party
they voted for in 2021.
The survey was carried out by Opinaia with interviews with 638 people nationwide.
The first conclusion is transversal to the entire society and is confirmation of the high interest that the case provoked, with a general average of
83 percent
of the people consulted.

A second important fact is that, regardless of political color,
94 percent agreed with the life sentence
for 5 of the defendants, while in the case of the three more moderate sentences, 15 years in prison, the consensus weakened: only
38 percent
endorsed that decision .
The
management of judges and prosecutors
was evaluated positively by
80 percent
of those consulted.
In the case of the performance of the lawyers, Tomei received only 18 percent approval, while in the case of Burlando it was 89 percent.
Finally, the
general social perception of having obtained justice
in the historic judicial process was
81 percent
on average.
Consequently, for 19 percent of the population that feeling was not satisfied after the hearings in Dolores.
The opinion according to the vote
However, the same scenario becomes more complex when entering the variable of
electoral sympathy
.
That is, how the perception of the case, the trial and its resolution is divided based on the vote cast in the 2021 legislatures. There the waters are divided;
not much, but there are nuances.
And there are even some contradictions.
When asked about
how informed
they perceived themselves about the case, among the voters of Juntos por el Cambio, 85 percent said that they were “very” or “quite a bit”, while among the voters of the Frente de Todos that response was ten percentage points lower. , 75 percent.

how much interest
the case generated, the attraction was even: 89 percent for voters of Mauricio Macri and 88 percent for those of Alberto Fernández.
However, the proportion among those who were "very" interested was higher among the latter: 37 versus 29 percent.
Regarding the
evaluation of the sentence
, the negative image was balanced, although somewhat higher among the supporters of Together for Change, with 40 percent, versus 36 percent of the Frente de Todos.
By drawing more detail on the
differentiated sentences
, the life sentences deserved a 96 percent approval among the voters of Together for Change, against the 95 of the Frente de Todos.
But with one caveat: those who were "strongly in agreement" in the first case were 82 percent, against 72 percent of the second.
Regarding the
15-year prison sentences for three of the defendants
, approval was 36 percent for opposition voters and 30 for those of the ruling party.
On the other hand, the performance of the Justice was more valued by the former (87 percent) than by the latter (80 percent).

The parties had seven calendar days from the knowledge of the sentence to make the appeal reservation -a procedure that they have already completed- and from then on the 20 days began to run to formally present their writings so that the court of appeals can analyze and dictate.
