The signatories, among whom there is no representation of the Jewish community, have released a statement asking their faithful and political groups to "reflect" on the approval of this legislation.

The main leaders of the religious denominations sign a declaration where they attack the laws of abortion and euthanasia. SPANISH EPISCOPAL CONFERENCE

The leaders and representatives of the main religious denominations have met this Wednesday, under the roof of the headquarters of the Spanish Episcopal Conference (CEE) in Madrid, to jointly sign a declaration "on the dignity of human life" in which they attack against the current laws on the right to abortion and euthanasia.

“We observe with increasing concern how for decades, in our country, laws have been promoted and approved in which, in some cases, human life is left seriously unprotected, legislating not only against the principles of the Creator, but also against the most essential of human rights: the right to life”, appears in one of the five points contained in the document.

Representatives of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Spain have refused to join the initiative.

The signatories have been César García Magán, Secretary General of the EEC;

Carolina Bueno, executive secretary of the Federation of Evangelical Entities of Spain;

Reverend Andrey Kordochkin, of the Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate;

Bishop Carlos López, of the Spanish Reformed Episcopal Church;

Bishop Timotei, of the Romanian Patriarchate Orthodox Church;

Bishop Bessarion, Metropolitan of the Orthodox Church of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, and Mohamed Ajana, Secretary of the Islamic Commission of Spain.

Before exposing the full statement, those present have read three passages from the Bible to justify their position, including one belonging to the book of Genesis, and also several references to the Koran and "Islamic jurisdiction."

Then, they all signed the document, which they will present this afternoon to "the three powers of the Spanish State": the General Council of the Judiciary, the Ministry of the Presidency and the Congress of Deputies.

"There is a common denominator, not only among Christians, but also with the great monotheistic religions, those of us who are children and descendants of Abraham, due to that care and solicitude for life", declared the General Secretary of the EEC.

The editors of the text argue that life does not depend "on social consensus, but is an intrinsic quality of every human being, whose rights must always be respected."

They also stress that "respect for the dignity of life" is a sign "of progress" in a society.

In the same way, religious leaders admit that "there are complex situations, of apparent conflicts of rights, that are difficult to resolve", but they assure that "they cannot be resolved in a generic way by sacrificing one of the fundamental rights".

This joint presentation comes a week after the Constitutional Court rejected the PP's appeal against the abortion deadline law.

During these days, there have been many bishops who have shown their discontent with this decision and have harshly attacked both the Government and some of the opposition parties.

“What has been the reaction of Mr. Feijóo, the president of the Popular Party to this Constitutional sentence?

The PP filed an appeal for unconstitutionality 13 years ago.

Well, now, gentlemen, the reaction of Mr. Feijóo is to applaud this ruling, ”the bishop of Orihuela Alicante, Ignacio Munilla, criticized a week ago on his radio program.

The president of the main opposition party has declared this Wednesday that abortion is a woman's right, but he does not consider it "fundamental",
