The federal police arrested a suspected shoplifter at Berlin Central Station on Saturday afternoon.
One of the officers used his firearm, as a spokesman for the Federal Police confirmed to the German Press Agency.
He did not provide any details of the operation.
A spokesman for the Berlin fire brigade said several injured people had been taken to nearby hospitals.
It was initially unclear how the injuries came about.
According to the spokesman, the fire brigade was on site with almost 50 emergency services.
The daily newspaper »Welt« had previously reported on the use of firearms.
According to the newspaper, the incident happened around 2 p.m.
The alleged shoplifter is said to have carried a knife with him.
However, it remained unclear whether the man attacked the federal police officers or other people or whether there was only a risk of such an attack.
The suspect is said to be in custody.
