»Avatar: The Way of Water«: No film made more money in Germany

Director James Cameron remains a guarantee of success. With the second part of "Avatar" he set a new record at the German box office - at least as far as the proceeds are concerned. But that is also due to inflation.

129 million euros in sales in 68 days: That is the result of the film »Avatar: The Way of Water« by director James Cameron in Germany.

The film breaks the record sales set by 1998's Titanic, according to Walt Disney Company executive Roger Crotti.

However, there are limitations.

For example, the result is not adjusted for inflation.

It must also be taken into account that cinema tickets have become more expensive over the years and 3D films often cost a surcharge.

The most visited cinema film in Germany is still "Titanic" - also a film by James Cameron.

It was released in German cinemas 25 years ago and is currently running again in view of this anniversary.

»Made for the cinema«

The first film in the series, »Avatar – Aufbruch nach Pandora«, was released in cinemas in 2009, and the second was released last December.

Cameron recently told the dpa news agency about the success of »Titanic« and the »Avatar« films: »It is the combination of an emotional journey and a spectacular, visual experience in a cinema.

All three films are made for the cinema and don't look nearly as good at home.«

»Avatar: The Way of Water« is nominated for four Oscars, including best picture.

Disney announced in January that it had grossed $2.02 billion worldwide.

Cameron has more »Avatar« parts planned.

The two previous films tell of the inhabitants of the planet Pandora, who have to defend their living space against the greed and striving for power of the earthlings.
