Earthquake: Syria-Turkey border area hit again

A new earthquake has shaken Turkey in the border region with Syria.

The earthquake with a magnitude of 6.4 hit the southeastern Turkish province of Hatay, according to the Kandilli earthquake station in Istanbul.

The epicenter was in the Samandag district.

The European earthquake monitoring station EMSC gave the magnitude of the quake as 6.3.

According to her, it is the ninth noticeable earthquake in the region within the past 68 hours.

According to eyewitnesses, other buildings in the city of Antakya were damaged.

The tremors were also felt in Syria, Egypt and Lebanon.

Federal ministers visit earthquake region

Just two weeks ago, there were devastating earthquakes in the Turkish-Syrian border region: early in the morning of February 6, a 7.7 magnitude tremor shook southeast Turkey and northern Syria, followed hours later by a second severe 7.6 magnitude tremor .

In both cases, the epicenter was in the southern Turkish province of Kahramanmaras.

The number of victims of the first quake has now risen to more than 47,000.

Because of the catastrophic consequences of this severe earthquake, Federal Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock and Interior Minister Nancy Faeser want to visit the earthquake region in south-eastern Turkey on Tuesday.

During the one-day visit, the two politicians wanted to get an idea of ​​the situation on site.
