Ukrainian soldiers exercising on German Marder tanks in Munster: their training has been running since January 30, and it should be completed by the end of March and both Marder and Leopard tanks should be delivered to Ukraine.
Boris Pistorius, Federal Defense Minister:
»
We are training 600 non-commissioned officers, who I like to call the backbone of every army.
Since the beginning of the war, we have trained more than 1,200 Ukrainian soldiers in complex areas, i.e. beyond basic training.
By the end of this year there will be more than 3,000.
«
The goal is to train a total of up to 30,000 Ukrainian soldiers - on behalf of the European Union.
Former boxing world champion Wladimir Klitschko also attended the visit to the soldiers from his homeland.
He appealed to take the help seriously and hurry up.
Wladimir Klitschko, ex-boxing world champion:
"
A year ago, the free world didn't believe in Ukraine.
I ask you to believe in us in Ukraine.
Continuing to believe that we can defend ourselves.
I am eternally grateful when I hear how well the Ukrainian soldiers are adjusting here and how quickly they are learning.
Because it's a matter of life and death.

At the Munster military training area, Ukrainian soldiers practice how the commander and gunner work together in the turret of the Marder infantry fighting vehicle.
For five weeks, they also train here for the use of the Leopard 2 main battle tank - although it is still unclear how many of these tanks the European allies will ultimately deliver to Ukraine.
