"Helau!" and "Alaaf!" - it's carnival!

Today is Shrove Monday and with it a small part of Germany is out of action.

The fifth season, which began on November 11, 2022, culminates in many Shrove Monday parades, events and meetings today.

Not only do they dress up, they also sing, dance and listen to satirical carnival speeches.

These speeches are also called handmade speeches because they used to be held at lecterns made of wine barrels.

Another word for a wine barrel is Bütte or Butte and that's how the child got its name.

For all those who can't or don't want to party wildly today, but still want a little color on this cold February day, you should bake our little eggnog cakes with colorful sprinkles.

Very practical in waffle cups, so you can snack on the packaging right away.

That's how it's done:

You only need a few ingredients:

  • Dough:

  • 100 g butter, soft

  • 70 grams of sugar

  • 1 packet of vanilla sugar

  • 2 eggs

  • 120 grams of wheat flour

  • 1 teaspoon Baking powder

  • 50 ml eggnog

  • Aside from that:

  • 20 waffle cups with cocoa glaze

  • 100 g couverture

  • Colorful sprinkles (e.g. sugar pearls, mini marshmallows)

The preparation is simple:

  • Preheat the oven to 190°C for a circulating air.

  • For the dough:

Using a hand mixer, beat the softened butter, sugar and vanilla sugar until fluffy.

Stir in eggs one at a time.

Mix wheat flour and baking powder.

Add to the bowl alternately with eggnog and stir until a homogeneous dough forms.

  • Place waffle cups in an ovenproof dish.

Pack so that they are stable and do not fall over.

Pour the batter into the waffle cups and bake for about 20 minutes.

    Take out and let cool.

  • Melt the couverture over a water bath.

  • Swap the eggnog cake for the couverture and decorate with colored sprinkles as you like.

  • Zack - done!
