Shinkansen to Eilat:

Israel's ambassador to Japan, Gilad Cohen, revealed today (Tuesday) that he recently met with the management of the "Shinkansen", the fastest Japanese train in the world, with one and only goal: to advance the process of bringing the Japanese bullet trains to Israel and fulfill the long-standing Israeli fantasy - Arriving in Eilat by train in only half an hour.

Furthermore, Cohen said in a special meeting with the top of the real estate industry who came to Japan for a professional tour led by Media Real Estate, that the Japanese expressed interest in promoting the process.

We will recall that in the last victory speech, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu stated that he would make sure to advance the construction of the train to Eilat.

"As soon as I heard Netanyahu's inauguration speech, I contacted Shinkansen. They expressed interest and are in regular contact with us today, expressing interest," says Cohen.

The Japanese Shinkansen today reaches 350 km/h, but it should be noted that these days advanced work is being done on a new bullet train that will reach a record speed of 630 km/h.

It should be noted that already in 2015 the hover train managed to reach a speed of 630 km/h and has since been developed into a commercial one.

A successful example of a similar move can be seen in the Italian railway factories, where I toured for an article I photographed. The train was purchased by the Japanese, and today it is much faster - when traveling from Florence Rome, over 300 kilometers away, takes only about 75 minutes.

Let's recall that an attempt was made in the past for the Japanese train to enter Israel as well - which failed mainly because of the bureaucracy and the lack of economic viability. A train that takes three to five years in the world takes two decades in Israel.

On the other hand, the advantage of the train to Eilat is that the infrastructure already exists up to Nahal Tzin and the distance is short.

The Chinese, for example, made a commitment to me in a conversation I had with them, that they can complete the construction of a train to Eilat in three years.

The disadvantage of Shinkansen is that they cannot have stations along the way in short distances.

A direct train to Arava and two stops from there is definitely possible.

After the budget for planning the train to Eilat was approved in May 2022, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotritz visited the southern city three weeks ago for a meeting with the mayor, Eli Lankri, and said in the context of the train to Eilat: "The realization of the tremendous potential of Eilat will give a tremendous boost to the Negev and Zionism, but also to the Israeli economy in various aspects many".
