She is one of the celebrity women who are getting old and are being attacked for their handling of it – and she does not want to put up with it: Superstar Madonna, 64 years old, has fought back after hostilities about alleged cosmetic surgery, this time she hit with irony return.
"Look how cute I am now that the swelling from the surgery has gone down," Madonna wrote on Twitter alongside a photo of her in a cap and long reddish braids.
The singer is apparently alluding to comments on social media that were derogatory to her handling of aging and – officially unconfirmed – cosmetic surgery.
Things started at the Grammy Awards when Madonna announced Sam Smith and Kim Petras.
Many viewers were less interested in the award of the two pop stars than the face of the 64-year-old.
Shortly thereafter, Madonna had massively criticized the derogatory comments about her appearance.
After the Grammy performance, Madonna wrote on Instagram that she found herself "once again caught in the glare of ageism and misogyny".
Ageism refers to the negative evaluation of people because of their age, misogyny means misogyny.
Madonna lamented "a world that refuses to celebrate women over 45 and feels the need to punish women for continuing to be determined, hardworking and adventurous."
She had also argued that the images were taken with a telephoto camera and "would distort anyone's face."
On Twitter, Madonna was confident – and unshakeable: "The world feels intimidated by my strength, my stamina, my intelligence and my will to survive," wrote the singer who has been successful for decades, "but they will never break me."
