Italy's GDP became negative, at -0.1%, in the fourth quarter of 2022, against the +0.5% recorded in the previous quarter: this is what emerges from the OECD's provisional estimates published today.
In the G7, says the Paris-based international body, "GDP growth slowed slightly in the fourth quarter of 2022, to 0.4%, against 0.5% in the third quarter".
This result, the OECD points out, "reflects a contrasting situation between the various G7 countries: on the one hand, growth has become negative in Germany and Italy (respectively -0.2% and -0.1%) and is slowed down to 0.4% in Canada, 0% in France and 0.7% in the United States GDP instead increased by 0.2% in Japan after a contraction of 0.3% in the third quarter of 2022 and is remained stable in the UK after a 0.2% contraction in the previous three months".
More generally, the OECD's GDP grew on average by 0.3% in the fourth quarter of last year, against 0.4% in the previous quarter.
In the area as a whole, growth remained weak throughout 2022 "in a context of high inflation and rising interest rates".
Among the OECD countries closest to Ukraine, GDP contracted in Poland (-2.4%), Lithuania (-1.7%) and Hungary (-0.4%).
