Our review of Petites, by Julie Lerat-Gersant: a great film about early motherhood

CRITICISM – In this promising first feature film, Romane Bohringer, very convincing, embodies a reassuring educator.


The film begins with shaken close-ups in an ambulance en route to the emergency room in Cherbourg.

“We have an attempted abortion with Cytotec with a little cannabis too, with discomfort and vomiting

”, specifies the paramedic behind the wheel.

The camera captures a mother's hands on her daughter's head, to the sound of electrocardiogram 'beeps beeps'.

She tries a clumsy:

"I love you, my daughter."

Inside, you can hear the clink of bracelets and rings.

On the screen, the faces of these two women, filled with sadness and underlined by the bluish light of the flashing light.
