(ANSA) - ROME, FEBRUARY 22 - With 78 votes in favour, 57 against and 7 abstentions, the Senate floor approved the decree introducing urgent measures for plants of national strategic interest, also known as the former Ilva.

The provision passes to the Chamber for final approval and must be converted into law by 6 March.

The decree, passed on 5 January, allows for the transfer of 680 million to Acciaierie d'Italia (this is the name of the new Taranto plant), a bridging loan to cover debts and avoid taking the books to court, as well as support for other companies strategic.

A sort of 'shield' is therefore established which will prevent, by the judicial authority, "interdictory sanctions" which jeopardize the "continuity of the activity" carried out in the establishments considered to be of national strategic interest.

The 'shield' will only come into effect if the "organizational deficiencies" that led to the crime are eliminated.

(HANDLE).
