Two people, a 53-year-old former traffic policeman and a 40-year-old man of Albanian origin but domiciled in the area, were investigated for voluntary homicide in connection with the death on 26 July 2019 of one of the two owners of a butcher's shop in Faenza (Ravenna), the 64-year-old Domenico Montanari, found hanged in his shop.
As reported by the two local newspapers, the former policeman was initially accused of instigating suicide;
then he had prevailed death as a consequence of another crime, in this case usury.
Also on the basis of notes left by the deceased, the prosecutor had come to hypothesize that the 53-year-old had both his own checks and those filled in by other people among his debtors changed by the butcher.
On the morning of her death, he had gone to the butcher for a third party offer to buy the house.
In conclusion of the police checks coordinated by the prosecutor Angela Scorza, the policeman, in addition to the death of the butcher as a result of usury, had also been accused of a maxi-swindle involving two elderly twins, a scam involving two spouses who wanted to collect the insurance compensation for a road accident, extortion of a uniform collector and one of a luxury car rental company (this had earned him the dismissal) for a total sentence of 5 years and 10 months.
The guarantee notice for murder started last Monday due to a technical assessment of the two suspects' electronic devices, in particular on a mobile phone seized in 2019 from the former policeman and for which the suspect had never provided the password.
The two are defended by lawyers Gabriele Bordoni and Luca Donelli.
