(ANSA) - BERLIN, FEBRUARY 23 - THE GOOD MOTHERS, the new original Italian series from Disney+, in competition in BerlinaleSeries at the 73rd edition of the Berlin International Film Festival, has won the first Berlinale Series Award, the first of its kind for TV at a major film festival.
The series, which tells the 'Ndrangheta from the point of view of the women who dared to challenge it, is directed by JulianJarrold and Elisa Amoruso and produced by Juliette Howell, TessaRoss and Harriet Spencer for House Productions and by Mario Gianani and Lorenzo Gangarossa for Wildside, a Fremantle group.
Based on the homonymous bestseller by journalist Alex Perry, it tells of a young and brilliant prosecutor, Anna Colace (Barbara Chichiarelli), who has the intuition to attack the 'Ndrangheta by leveraging the wives, mothers and mistresses of the bosses.
It all starts from the true story of the disappearance in 2009 of Lea Garofalo (Micaela Ramazzotti), who had testified against her husband Carlo Cosco (Francesco Colella) to start a new life with her daughter Denise (Gaia Girace).
Anna then discovers the story of Giuseppina Pesce (Valentina Bellè) and Concetta Cacciola (Simona di Stefano), two very different women, but with the same desire to rebel.
