The European Commission has asked all employees with the TikTok app installed on company devices and personal devices with access to the Commission's mobile phone service to uninstall it as soon as possible.

This was confirmed by the European executive after press rumors in this regard.

The request is linked to the need to protect the Commission's data and increase its IT security.

For weeks, the European executive has turned the spotlight on the security of TikTok, after the alarm in this sense already raised in the United States, with a ban on use on government devices.

Press reconstructions also spoke of the use of social networks to spy on journalists.

In January, TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew traveled to Brussels to meet several European commissioners.

Among others, Justice Commissioner Didier Reynders asked him to comply with privacy rules.

"There are positive trends, but there is still room for improvement," he stressed.

“We are disappointed by this decision, which we believe is wrong and based on bias - comments a TikTok spokesperson - We contacted the Commission to set the record straight and explain how we protect the data of the 125 million people who are on TikTok every month throughout the European Union.

We are continuing to improve our approach to data security, including through the establishment of three data centers in Europe to store user data locally, further reducing employee access to data and minimizing data flow to the outside Europe".

On December 29, US President Joe Biden signed the act banning Tik Tok from all cell phones used by federal employees.

A crackdown that comes after the decisions already taken by some local governments and which marks a turning point for the future of the app in the United States.

The reasons are "for security issues", related to the ownership of the social media.
