(ANSA-AFP) - ROME, FEBRUARY 23 - The European Commission has asked all employees with the TikTok app installed on company devices and personal devices with access to the Commission's mobile phone service to uninstall it as soon as possible.

This was confirmed by the European executive after press leaks in this regard.

Chinese video giant TikTok regretted the decision, calling it "wrong".

A press release from the company says so.

"The European Commission is an institution and as such has a strong focus on protecting cyber security and that is where we took this decision on," EU Internal Market Commissioner Thierry Breton told a press briefing.

"We are extremely careful to protect our data."

The decision to ban TikTok, he clarified, was taken by EU Commissioner Johannes Hahn.
