Taylor Swift is the IPI 'Global Recording Artist' of 2022

The IFPI, the organization that represents the recording industry worldwide, has chosen Taylor Swift as the winner of the Global Recording Artist award 2022: it is the third time for the American superstar, a record in the history of the award, which covers the entire body of work and is calculated based on worldwide performance during the year across digital and physical music formats, from streams to vinyl.

Taylor Swift has previously been a regular on the IFPI Global Artist Chart, first in 2014 and 2019, second in 2021 behind BTS and Top 10 in 2015, 2017 and 2020. The release of her latest album Midnights in the October 2022 determined his return to the top of the chart.

The rest of the podium sees BTS in second place (this is their third consecutive year in the Top 3, following wins in 2020 and 2021) and Drake in third place with his fifth Top 3 appearance since the table began.

Puerto Rican superstar Bad Bunny is in fourth place: he is the first Latin American artist to make the Top 5 and is the highest position ever for an artist who performs predominantly in Spanish.

Ranked ninth, Jay Chou became the first Taiwanese artist to appear on the chart, thanks to his solid popularity in China and Southeast Asia.

And it was also an impressive year for the South Korean scene, with more artists than any other nationality appearing in the Top 10 for the first time ever: BTS were in fact joined by SEVENTEEN and Stray Kids, in sixth and seventh place respectively.
