Trailer: blood, tears and dance in Carmen, the intense first film by Benjamin Millepied

The choreographer signs his first feature film, a contemporary reinterpretation of Georges Bizet's classic, Carmen. A promising film by its aesthetics which obviously puts dance in the spotlight.

The husband of Natalie Portman thus offers a modern reinterpretation of the classic by Georges Bizet, adapted from the short story by Prosper Mérimée, in the form of a musical film.

Carmen is here a young Mexican who comes across a patrol as she tries to cross the American border.

A former soldier named Aidan saves his life by killing one of his own.

Linked by this tragic event, they are pursued by the police and embark on a run to Los Angeles.

They will find refuge in the heart of the Sombra Poderosa, a club run by the young woman's aunt, played by Rossy de Palma, where music and dance rule the roost.

Dances and fights

These first images show many choreographies but also combat scenes, and announce a film where aesthetics and anger, dance and violence dialogue.

In the casting, we find the Mexican Melissa Barrera in the title role, the Irishman Paul Mescal in that of Aidan but also Rossy de Palma, therefore, Elsa Pataky and Tracy Curry, rapper better known under the name of The DOC.

The soundtrack is by Nicholas Britell.
