At the weekend, a cold front from the north will bring rain, snow and sometimes temperatures well below 0 degrees to Germany.
The nights will be very frosty, as reported by the German Weather Service (DWD).
Only on Sunday and at the beginning of the coming week does a high have an increasing impact.
It will stay cold for now.
"During the day, however, the February sun allows for a slight warming."
According to the meteorologists, Friday will bring clouds and precipitation from the north to the middle.
Snow falls above 400 to 600 meters.
Wet flakes are possible down to the lowlands.
It will therefore remain dry in the south, and the sun will be visible, especially in the Alps.
Later there will also be some showery rain.
Temperatures will rise to a maximum of 8 degrees in the north and up to 13 degrees in the south and south-west.
There could be gusts of wind on the coasts and on higher mountains.
Contrary to initial forecasts, the southwest will be spared from the Sahara dust – motorists should be happy.
The reddish particles in the air will probably rain down over Switzerland and south-eastern France on their journey from Africa on Thursday and Friday, according to a spokesman for the German Weather Service.
The dust will therefore not be noticeable in Baden-Württemberg.
But the extent is also rather small in the neighboring countries.
Dry in the north at the weekend - snow and sleet showers in the south
At the start of the weekend it will remain partly sunny in the north to the middle, partly cloudy, but mostly dry.
In the Alps and on the northern edge of some low mountain ranges, it will be wintry with snow and snowdrifts, the DWD further announced.
Otherwise there is changeable weather with sleet, snow or sleet showers.
The wind is fresh on and on the Baltic Sea and in the mountains there can also be stormy gusts.
Temperatures cool down to a maximum of 2 to 6 degrees during the day.
At night there are almost everywhere between 0 and minus 5 degrees, in the mountains it gets even colder.
In the north and west it will be sunny on Sunday or there will be loose clouds - and it will remain dry.
Otherwise, according to the meteorologists, it will remain cloudy at times, especially to the east.
Occasionally more frequent snow showers, especially in the Alps and in the Ore Mountains.
The temperatures are between 0 degrees in the south and south-east and up to 6 degrees between the Lower Rhine and East Frisia.
There is permafrost in the mountains.
