(ANSA) - TEL AVIV, FEBRUARY 24 - Former premier Ehud Barak has warned that Israel is one step away from slipping "into a dictatorship" due to the judicial reform of the government of Benjamin Netanyahu.

And he immediately added that in this case people would be forced to refuse the orders of "an illegitimate regime".

Barak explained that the country is facing "the most serious" national crisis since the 1948 war of independence and that it now risks becoming "a de facto dictatorship" if Netanyahu's government manages to impose judicial reform.

Of the same tenor is an open letter signed by over 100 reservists and soldiers of the Military Intelligence Division for operations.

In addition to protesting the judicial reform, they have announced that they will stop reporting for service if the government completes its plans.
