(ANSA) - ROME, FEBRUARY 25 - The G20 Finance meeting in Bangalore ends without an official final communiqué, but with a summary of the Indian rotating presidency which reiterates the condemnation of the war launched by Russia in Ukraine expressed in November in Bali, supported by "most of the Member States" but without the support of Russia and China.
The summary document of the presidency, which replaces the traditional joint communiqué, in two paragraphs not approved by Russia and China expressly mentions the "war" triggered by the Russian invasion and writes: "since February 2022, we have seen the war in Ukraine negatively influencing the global economy. There was an unrelated discussion. We reaffirmed the national positions expressed in other forums, including the UN Security Council and the General Assembly" which by a majority condemned the invasion by Russia and called for the withdrawal from Ukrainian territory.
"Most of the members - writes the G20 presidency - strongly condemned the war in Ukraine underlining that it is causing immense suffering and exacerbating previous fragility of the global economy".
The document also defines the use of nuclear weapons as "unacceptable" and defines "essential support for international law and the multilateral system that safeguards peace and stability", in particular the protection of civilians and infrastructure in armed conflicts.
