It's about Oh! Located in the area of La Barra. Last weekend the fire destroyed a hostel in José Ignacio.

The closure of the 2023 summer season in Uruguay leaves two serious incidents at tourist sites.

A week after the fierce fire that completely destroyed the La Susana hostel in José Ignacio, another similar event occurred again in the vicinity of Punta del Este, where

a shopping mall was set on fire this Monday.

This is

Oh!,

which is located in the area of La Barra that is frequented by tourists since it works as an extension of the social life of the famous Uruguayan spa city.

The incident occurred around noon, when some people began to evacuate the building located at 20001 Eduardo Victor Haedo street due to the presence of smoke.

According to local media, it came from a fire that had broken out in one of the businesses located inside the establishment.

It was a children's play area, from where they quickly alerted the fact, making firefighters arrive at the scene just minutes later and control the flames.

Thanks to the quick action, the fire did not spread to the rest of the establishment.

The place was destroyed.

"There were no people affected or intoxicated by the combustion gases," said the director of the Maldonado Fire Department, Sebastián Camejo, in dialogue with the Telemundo newscast.

Regarding the operation carried out in the place, he explained: "When the Maldonado Fire Department was alerted, we attended with an entire fire train, a tanker truck and command vans in order to be able to quickly respond."

In this sense, he stressed that one of the reasons why the fire did not escalate was due to the quick action of the workers of the affected premises.

"Something important to highlight is the first response of the site workers, who tried to reduce the temperature by means of installed fire extinguishers and fire hydrants, which favored that at the time of the arrival of the firefighters the fire was not in another type of propagation, especially by ceiling ”, he explained in this regard.

The fire was recorded by several residents of the area in videos that were later disseminated through social networks.

In the recordings you can see the moment in which a column of smoke invades the mall, just before the firefighters begin to act.

The shopping statement

The shopping authorities echoed the fact hours after what happened and referred to the fire through a statement that they shared on their social networks.

“On the day of the date, at 11:50 a.m., there was a start of fire in one of the shopping premises, precisely at the kids point.

All the security and detection systems worked thanks to the work of our staff and the tireless help of the firefighters”, they began by saying in the statement.

And it was reported: “The incident was resolved quickly.

All the official protocols perfectly.

No person has been affected, this is the only important thing”.

In this sense, they indicated that the mall will remain closed due to the incident.

"We are awaiting the delivery of the property by the firefighters to whom WE ARE ETERNALLY GRATEFUL. Once confirmed by the fire authorities that everything is in order, WE WILL OPEN THE DOORS AGAIN WITH MORE STRENGTH," they remarked.

And they concluded: "The Kids Point location will remain closed UNTIL IT IS DONE AGAIN AND MORE CUTE. Those who have tickets will be able to receive the money back or redeem it for other parks."
