Turkey has reiterated that it can separate the examination of the candidatures of Sweden and Finland to join NATO.
"Our president (Recep Tayyip Erdogan) clearly said that we can separate the accession process of Sweden and Finland, our approach towards Finland is more positive," Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said at a news conference in Turkey with the Hungarian counterpart Peter Szijjarto, broadcast by the Turkish state TV Trt.
The head of Ankara's diplomacy recalled that Erdogan has already clarified these points with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
Turkey hopes that a trilateral meeting with representatives of Sweden and Finland to discuss the accession of the Scandinavian countries to the Atlantic Alliance can be held soon in Brussels, Cavusoglu said.
