(ANSA) - LONDON, FEBRUARY 27 - The charter signed today by conservative prime minister Rishi Sunak and the president of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen is called the "WindsorFramework", intended to establish the interpretative stakes for a revision of the disputed post-Brexit protocol on Northern Ireland North.

Sunak himself made this known in the joint press conference, speaking of "a decisive turning point" able in his words both to keep the borders open with the Republic of Ireland as envisaged by the Good Friday peace and to eliminate all barriers in the transit of internal goods between Ulster and rest of the UK.

The 'Windsor Framework' offers "strong safeguards that will protect the integrity of the single market".

This was stated by the president of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen during the press conference, specifying that the agreement "respects and protects our respective markets and interests".

The chair also underlined the fact that under the deal the same food will be available in Northern Ireland and the rest of the UK and there will be permanently the same availability of medicines.
