The cost of doing this can be overwhelming at first, but consumers don't have to pay for everything.
An overview of the consumer advice center shows which costs have to be covered by those in need of care and what the care insurance fund pays.
Costs are incurred for five different areas in a nursing home.
This includes costs for care and support as well as food and accommodation.

Investment costs, training costs and, in some cases, costs for additional services may also be incurred.
In order to be able to cover part of these costs, it is important that contributions are regularly paid into statutory or private long-term care insurance.
Then a subsidy towards nursing home costs can be paid.
This subsidy must be claimed from the nursing care fund.
As the consumer advice center writes, "the long-term care insurance contributes to the costs of care and support as well as the training costs."
Nursing staff arguably accounts for the highest costs in a nursing home.
This includes not only the costs for nursing and care, but also the training costs of the staff, which are covered by the nursing care insurance.
The amount of the grants from the long-term care insurance is based on the degree of care of the person in need of care.
With care level 2, the nursing care fund pays 770 euros a month to the nursing home, with care level 5 it is 2,005 euros.
The long-term care insurance fund also assigns the degree of care.
When pensioners move into a nursing home: what costs do consumers have to bear themselves?
In the case of inpatient care, residents of the nursing home receive an additional supplement.
This depends on how long you have been living there – a change of nursing home or nursing fund is irrelevant.
How many costs nursing home residents have to bear themselves also depends on the degree of care.
With a level of care of 1, the care fund only pays 125 euros, the rest of the care costs have to be borne by the consumer.
With a level of care between 2 and 5, residents only pay their own contribution that is consistent with the facility.
