The report made headlines: Police officers in North Rhine-Westphalia had allegedly guided the football club's team buses through a rescue lane.
Initially, the police had asked for an apology - now they are describing the incident on February 18, following Bayern Munich's Bundesliga game in Mönchengladbach, in a slightly different way.
A police spokeswoman told SPIEGEL that it was "not discussed and not wanted" that the buses follow the patrol.
The police escort was only planned up to the entrance to Autobahn 52 – but the buses continued to follow the patrol.
However, the drivers were not stopped because this would have blocked the emergency lane, the spokeswoman said.
Drivers who use the rescue lane without permission face a fine of 240 euros in Germany, a driving ban and two points in Flensburg.
In this case, according to the spokeswoman, the police have “no ambitions” to initiate administrative offense proceedings against the bus driver.
There may have been a “misinterpretation” or a “misunderstanding”.
The patrol car crew wanted to use blue lights to guide a fire brigade vehicle through the rescue lane.
It was not intended that the Bayern buses should follow.
The "Bild" newspaper had previously reported on the latest developments in the case.
