Nokia launches fairly affordable user-serviceable phone and shifts production of 5G smartphones to Europe.
These are the main announcements of the brand owned by the Finnish HMD Global during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona which opens today.
There are three new smartphone models launched: Nokia G22, Nokia C22 and Nokia C32, the first in particular thanks to the collaboration with iFixit, the community that promotes the cause of device repair, has a repair kit and is equipped with a shell in 100% recycled plastic.
“The new Nokia G22 is purpose-built to be serviced from the comfort of your home so you can keep it and use it for even longer,” says Adam Ferguson, Head of Product Marketing at HMD Global.
Nokia G22 has a cost under 200 euros;
Mounting kits and spare parts will be available on the official website of iFixit.com in Europe, including display, battery and charging port.
In 2023 - the company then announced - the production of Nokia devices will move to Europe, thus making it the first company to build 5G smartphones on the European continent.
“We are very pleased to announce this first step in our journey of relocating 5G device production to Europe. The Nokia brand has a long history of success in the European market and with this move we will continue to strengthen our position as the only major European supplier of smartphones,” says Jean-Francois Baril, Co-Founder, Chairman and CEO of HMD Global.
