With the participation of 30 mentors and teachers of the English language subject, the Ministry of Education launched today a training workshop to develop the expertise and skills of the specialized mentors and train them on methods of teaching languages, in line with the new curricula of the English language subject.

The five-day workshop is held in cooperation with IELTS English Language Training Company and Aurelia Student Services Company, and focuses on the four skills in teaching, so that all mentors can transfer this training to teachers in the field, which contributes to raising their level of performance inside the classroom, according to the Director of Educational Supervision. In the Ministry, Enas Mia.

Mia indicated that the workshop comes within the framework of the Ministry's plan to develop the expertise and skills of the specialist mentors and to train them on methods of teaching languages ​​in line with the new curricula of the subject.

During the opening of the workshop, the Minister of Education, Dr. Darem Tabaa, indicated the ministry's interest in raising the capabilities of its teachers and improving their skills, especially in the field of foreign languages, which reflects positively on the development of students' skills and abilities, explaining that the ministry has taken an important step in the field of developing foreign languages.

Minister Tabbaa stated that developing speaking and listening skills is the basis for developing understanding and improving reading and writing, pointing out that this workshop is a first experience, and the course of work and feedback from it will be the basis for developing teachers' capabilities.

Director of the IELTS office in Syria and Iraq, Dr. Ibrahim Al-Hassan, pointed out in a statement to SANA that the workshop program aims to develop English language instructors in Syria from various governorates and train them on methods of teaching the new language, and its methodology by focusing on the four basic skills of the English language (speaking, listening, writing and reading). Indicating that these workshops are continuing to move to the training of teachers and teachers in the various governorates.

Director of Aurelia Student Services Company and lecturer at the workshop, Sami Al-Dahabi, indicated that training is a continuous necessity to raise the efficiency and improve the capabilities and skills of the mentors in accordance with the international English language quality standards, indicating that cooperation with the Ministry aims to improve the skills of mentors and teachers and its reflection on the skills of students.

A number of trained teachers and mentors explained to SANA the importance of the workshop, as it is the first of its kind in Syria. Karim Katsav, the first instructor of the English language in Syria, pointed out the focus during the workshop on enhancing the four skills in the English language and providing the trainees with an opportunity to deal with English-speaking trainers, indicating Mentors are role models for teachers, gaining information and teaching them new methods of teaching.

In her turn, the specialist mentor, Ghada Kissawi, from Hama governorate, explained that the workshop focuses on teaching flexibility, how to transfer information and innovative teaching methods to teachers, and how to employ them in classrooms.
