Robbers stole millions in an armed robbery on a money transporter on Autobahn 20 in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the police said.

The police did not want to name the exact amount, but the loot was at least two million euros, a spokeswoman told SPIEGEL.

According to the police, the perpetrators had prepared the coup well early in the morning at the Gützkow junction: the two masked men are said to have had submachine guns with them.

They are also said to have placed several large concrete blocks on the street.

According to the information, the perpetrators came with two vehicles and forced the employees of the security company to stop their car in front of the concrete blocks in such a way that escape was impossible.

According to investigations so far, no one was injured.

Burnt out and found open

One of the two perpetrator vehicles was immediately set on fire.

After opening the rear of the money transporter, the men fled south with their second vehicle and the loot on the A20, according to the police.

Before that, they set fire to the rear of the valuables transporter.

The employees of the regional cash and valuables transport company only then got out of the vehicle.

The stolen cash boxes were burnt out and found open in a wooded area just a few kilometers from the scene of the robbery.

The escape vehicle apparently used by the perpetrators and also burned out was also there.

So far, there is no information on the perpetrators, the police said.
