Italy is among the 22 member states that have expressed their preliminary interest in aggregating gas demand at EU level.

This was indicated by sources from the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security (Mase) at the end of the meeting of the board of the EU platform for joint gas purchases.

The volume of gas reported by Rome to participate in the first tranche of joint purchases - which Brussels intends to carry out in April - is around 2.3 billion cubic metres.

The hope, explained the same sources, is to do "even more in the interest of the industrial fabric".

EU, price is inflated, 7 times higher than the US -

"The price of gas in the EU remains inflated, for example it is almost seven times higher than in the United States. This naturally has repercussions on Europe's competitiveness and on the cost of living of our citizens".

This was stated by the vice president of the EU Commission Maros Sefcovic at the end of the meeting of the board of the EU platform for joint gas purchases, represented by high-level technicians from national governments.

- The February gas tariff on the protected market drops to 86.45 euro cents per cubic metre, 13% less than that of January, which had already seen a marked reduction.

This was announced by Arera, the public authority that fixes energy tariffs on protected markets.

The tariff of the protected market is fixed monthly, within the first 2 working days of the following month, on the basis of the monthly average price on the Italian wholesale market, the PSV.

In February, this average price of PSV was 56.87 euros per megawatt hour.
