A passenger on Japan Airlines pre-ordered a vegan meal and received a banana. He took the matter with humor and said: "That was one of the best bananas I've eaten." Details here! tourism

A business class passenger flying with Japan Airlines was surprised to find that the breakfast served to him included, well, a banana.

no more.

The passenger, who ordered a vegan meal, was even given cutlery and chopsticks with the banana.

This strange incident happened on February 20, on a flight that departed from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta, Indonesia, to Tokyo Narita Airport (Tokyo-Narita) in Japan. The passenger, Chris Chari, posted his experience on the aviation forum flyertalk and it was clear that he was amused by the whole thing. According to him, "It was one of the best bananas I've eaten recently." Not for free either: never eat the buns on the

You shouldn't be a vegetarian in the air: Is this the worst in-flight meal ever?

The big question: a meal that is a banana or a meal that includes a banana?

One way or another, unlike passengers who request a vegan meal on a plane without prior reservation, Shachari made it clear that he ordered a vegan meal in advance and even confirmed this with the flight attendant even before the banana was served to him.

And so Chari wrote in his post: "Today, before takeoff, the flight attendant confirmed that I had ordered a vegan meal and that my breakfast was a banana. I mistakenly assumed that she meant that breakfast included a banana. When she handed me the banana after takeoff, I thought it was just the appetizer, but Actually that was the whole meal! It was a really good banana - one of the best I've had recently - but it still seems more suitable as a snack. Are the meals coming from Sukarno-Hatta airport usually disappointing?"

And as already mentioned, the funniest thing about the whole thing is that the flight crew even provided Chari with cutlery and chopsticks with which he could eat his banana. It should be noted that a look at the special meals page of the Japanese airline shows a photograph of a typical vegan meal, which includes Several plant-based ingredients. And of course, you can order meals in advance through the same website or by contacting the airline's service representative.

And that is the explanation

So what exactly happened there?

One of the commenters to Chari's post in the aviation forum noted that unlike the regular Japan Airlines flight that departs from Jakarta to Tokyo at 9:35 p.m., Chari boarded the 06:35 flight, and according to the company's website, at that time he did not Breakfasts are served.

Indeed, an examination of the regular business class menu for this specific flight in February (numbered JL720) shows no mention of breakfast.

All the fliers get is a snack, in preparation for lunch, which is served a few hours later.

And this is the explanation why that "vegan breakfast" that Chari received was so unusual: for the simple reason that it was not supposed to be served at all.

Indeed, Japan Airlines stated that "on flights departing from Jakarta, a snack/light refreshment is served in business class immediately after takeoff. Before arriving at Tokyo Narita Airport, lunch or breakfast is served. The current snack/light refreshment for all special meals on the flight ( specifically) this is a banana. We take customer satisfaction seriously and will continue to respond to this in our menus in light of the growing interest and diverse needs of customers requesting special meals, including the important feedback from this customer."

Vegans?

There are far more bizarre cases

By the way, this is not the first time that vegans receive crazy meals on planes, and it won't be the last either.

For example, the "Independent" website reports that a passenger on Air Canada was shocked to receive a single bottle of water after requesting a vegan meal.

In the end, she was offered an impromptu meal consisting of fruit and rolls left over from the business class meals.

In 2020, a British Airways passenger requested a vegan meal and received a meal that included butter and cheese, two ingredients that are definitely not vegan.
